Sarah Gavlak Launches Inaugural New Wave Art Wknd

PRESS RELEASE

Inaugural New Wave Art Wknd offers exclusive access to Private Collections
November 30 – December 2, 2018
Palm Beach

(Palm Beach, FL) Gallerist Sarah Gavlak is thrilled to announce the launch of New Wave Art Wknd, an experiential weekend for dedicated collectors held in Palm Beach from November 30 to December 2, 2018. The weekend will consist of private collection tours, gallery openings, public art installations, and panel discussions dedicated to thought-provoking dialogue. New Wave Art Wknd aims to showcase the contemporary art scene that is flourishing in Palm Beach and address critical issues of our time—with an emphasis on inclusivity and immigration.

Gavlak also announced the formation of an immigrant artist-in-residency program launching in 2019 in collaboration with the New Wave Art Wknd Advisory Committee which includes Amy Phelan, Ann G. Tenenbaum, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Burt Minkoff, Franklin Sirmans, Irene Karp, Jane Holzer, Keith Bloomfield, Lisa Perry, and Mike De Paola. "We all share the belief that it is essential
to build a more inclusive culture and provide a serious platform for underrepresented artists including women, immigrants and artists of color," explained Gavlak.

The series of events will include: private tours of prominent contemporary collector's homes including Jane Holzer and Amy & John Phelan; opening of The Bunker Artspace: Collection of Beth Rudin DeWoody; the opening of a site-specific public art project in West Palm Beach curated by Culture Corps' Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen and operated by Related Group; a solo exhibition by Nir Hod at Gavlak Gallery, and thought-provoking panels moderated by curator Isolde
Brielmaier. For the 2018 installation of The Bunker, artist E.V. Day and White Cube's New York Artistic Director Eric Shiner will each co-curate a room alongside DeWoody.

"The spirit of New Wave is to shift the focus and financial resources to artists who are underserved and underrecognized," said Gavlak. "I was inspired by Berlin Art Week, Artcrush, and Brussels Gallery Weekend and wanted to take advantage of the growing collector and artist community in Palm Beach to inspire productive conversations."

About Gavlak Gallery
In 2005 Sarah Gavlak opened the first contemporary art gallery in Palm Beach after recognizing a lack of local gallery presence there. She founded her eponymous gallery with the goal of championing female and LGTBQ artists, and over the last 14 years has staged highly conceptual and pioneering exhibitions, which includes early solo presentations by Marilyn Minter, Betty Tompkins, Simone
Leigh and Wade Guyton. In 2014 she expanded her footprint and opened a 5,000 square foot space in Hollywood, and recently took on representation for artists Gisela Colon, Beverly Fishman, Candida Alvarez, and Vanessa German.

Key Support for New Wave Art Wknd is provided by Christie's, Forbes Family Trust and First Republic Bank.
