Up in the sky for three days last week, artist Yvette Mattern's monumental light display beamed beautifully from this array on the roof of the Standard Hotel. Requiring no more power than a pair of hair dryers, its seven colored lights were visible up to 35 miles away, enough to reach Far Rockaway (toward which they were pointed ) and other parts of the city hardest hit by Sandy. Mattern has been showing the work since 2009; its title, Global Rainbow, After the Storm, only seems to have been chosen for this deployment.
